Description |
Agar is the dried, hydrophilic, colloidal substance extracted from the algae known as agarophyites (several species and genera of the Class Rodophyceae). It consists of two polysaccharides, agarose and agaropectine, in a variable proportion depending on the geographical origin zone. The Agar Technical is a solidifying agent with a gel strengh higher than Agar Bacteriological, especially suggested when the culture medium does not require a total brightness, since it shows a slight turbidity.
